In this video I share with you one of my all time (as of today) favorite rounded nut/bolt extractor. Living in the rust belt and working on junk most of my life I have tried about every tool under the sun to remove a rounded off rusted out fastener. These Mac Tools R.B.R.T™ Extractors have been the bees knees. Down side is they are stupid money but worth every penny when it comes down to it in the shop. Enjoy!

It's time for a tool shout out folks haven't done tool time in a while. Now this is a tool that cannot be purchased on the amazon and i think mac tools is the only ones who make it. So it is uh i'll put a link in the description. I think they call it the rbrt uh, it's a rounded bolt, remover uh.

It comes in a set stupid money for what they are and when i first saw him i was like. Ah, these are gimmicky blah blah blah, but they tell me that they'll work on a 100 rounded, you know fastener. So i said: okay, you got my money now i tell you. I have used these multiple times living in the rust belt.

Obviously we got a lot of junk and these have been the best external biting extractor i've ever used in my life uh. So i'm going to show you here's this rotted out chevrolet. This bolt is, i would say, 80 rounded, that holds the wheel bearing on so i take that little guy. I give her a whack on there all right now.

These are the three eighths ones. These bolts are tight enough uh. My three is gon na got the beans, so we're going full thor action with it come on baby. I better give her another whack with the old hammer.

Let me tell you what i've taken a lot of crappy bolts out used a lot of twist sockets and i'll. Tell you right now. That was not going to happen with a twist socket, but there's already that guy in the comment section saying oh, i could have took that off with a pair of pliers. Well, here's the cool thing about this: is they have a trash extractor or foreign object? Remover? I think they call it so we're going to take yeah spin that down in there take her until she hits bottom one's pretty deep all right now we got to hold that and turn that and what better to use than what you already got.

The old half inch gun, because sometimes oh hang on sometimes getting the junk out of the uh out of the sockets, is the hardest thing to do come on baby. Oh, she comes boom and you've seen that i was able to give it full beans of thor granted. You know in the configuration that we had to and it took it out and i was able to run it in the forward direction and using that single socket. I was able to do all three uh not affiliated with mac tools, nor do they sponsor the show hashtag, not a sponsor i'll, leave a link.

I think you can buy them on their website. I don't know, but if you've got a tool truck in your area and you're hemming and haunting about buying a set of these, do it you're gon na have to refinance the house, though.

Project Farm tested extractors. I don’t remember if these won, or if he just tested stuff from the big box store.

$500. NO way. Ill try and torch it out and customer can pay for the labor and a spindle if needed. Not my problem.

Mortgage the house is right. The half inch drive is approximately $500, but if you need them you need them.

I will admit Eric, I’m just dumb just ole collision tech/painter that isn’t afraid to tackle my own mechanical repairs and I also live in the rust belt. I ran into a rounded head a while back. It being a weekend so no tool truck at my disposal and also being a cheap ass, I went to hobo freight and bought a set of theirs. And to my amazement, with a little BS heat from a propane touch (not MAP gas) they actually worked. But, I will look into these Matco ones.

Gear wrench has a set like these they call yhe bolt biter, i dont personally own them. We have a tech in the shop that does and he loves them. The work just like the rbrt, but does not have the push bolt to remove the trash and cost way less. The old amazon sells them

when time is money and when you spend $ on cheap ones dont work worth it's wight in gold thank you !!!!!!

$517??? I'll just heat the bolt head until it's cherry red and install the next size smaller socket on it via percussive maintenance and broach my own flats on it. Then toss the socket in the scrap heap and buy a new one.

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Monkeh says:

I was thinking hey, nothing that special, just nicely made, but the internal thread to drive the scrap out is new on me.

You just can't have enough extractor tools and techniques in nys. I have a drawer dedicated to them. It's my "in the shit" drawer. I feel for professional mechanics around here. Nothing like rust and snow in your face and down the shirt to make you think though your life choices.

Living in the "Rust Belt" pays you $$$$. Personally I like Florida better, less swearing and skinned knuckles.

South Main Auto.. I have been wanting to get the R.B.R.T lineup for a while now but dang they are expensive.

Gearwrench bolt biters are an affordable alternative. I've used the snot out of mine in my shop in MINNESOTA

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars LeewardStudios says:

Oh my damn! I had to click the link to check the price. I have a mechanic friend whose wife wants to get him some gift tools he might not buy for himself. This will show how much she loves him! As obviously Mrs. O loves you enough to let you buy them!

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Emilio G. says:

I tell everyone about rbrts. They work and come in all types and sizes. They are made by another company. Can’t recall which but the exclusive rights should end soon, hopefully. You can buy individual rbrt tools also.

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Fenriz Wulf says:

Everybody that says "XYZ brand is just as good for 1/4 the price" doesn't do this for a living and really has no idea.
