In this video I bring you along as I swap out the rear sway bar to frame bushings on this Nissan Maxima and I also swap out the clunky front sway bar links. Both are very easy jobs. -Enjoy!

Viewers welcome back to the south main auto channel, so we're back on the 2010 nissan maxima uh. This is the one that we just did uh the alternator on it's one. That's been set up for the nissan dealer for months and uh. Now that it runs well.

The lady wants to invest a little bit of money into it, so she can get rid of it because clearly she already bought a new car uh the brakes stumped like crazy from sitting. So that's a super common problem here in new york. I don't know if it happens, other places, but you leave the car sit and the brake pads rust right to the brake rotor, and then they create a spot on there. So every time you use a brakes, they thump and then the front sway bar links are rattling and the rear sway bar bushings are rattling.

She wants those fixed and then this left front wheel, bearing has a small amount of play in it and she wants to get that taken care of, and then we can slap an inspection sticker on it and everybody will be happy we'll start in the back. So these are the this: is the rear, sway bar? These are the bushings here, i'm kind of clunking around there. So it does that the whole time you drive uh, the links appear, the bushings appear bad and i got the wrong size. The first try that's kind of an odd duck.

It takes a 16., never seen that before. Let's see if we want to be friendly, that one is that one is that's great. Now we got ta hold, we got ta, hope and pray. We got the right ones from the napper uh, because when i looked them up they had two different part numbers listed and one just said optional.

I don't know what that means, but that's the only one that was available. So that's what we have you guys can't see, but i'm taking the other one off real, quick like i'm funny, here's the ones i have 265 37.65 classic. Let's get it open without destroying the box in case we have to send them back. Let's see at a glance in the bag, the od looks right.

The width looks right. The hole looks a little tighter time to open her up. Let's see for realsies now i figure. If we can keep them closed in there yeah pretty interesting and they were a dollar cheaper than other ones.

That didn't say, quote unquote optional, i don't know, let's uh get a little fluid, fill up there and see if we can get them around there without pinching. Our fingers so we'll give her a little spritz of some fluid film here, open her up slip it on over good time to check the sway bar links. Now, when there's no tension on the bar, i already did check them. I know they're good i'll flip that around you know what somebody's gon na say: that's going the opposite way where it was.

I don't think it really matters which way the crack goes, but we'll stick it on that way, i'll take and pop the other one. On too we're gon na give her a little spritz right up in the bolt holes there, and then i think what we can do is start the inner bolt just a couple of turns and get that one started all right. Let me get the other one started on the other side that you can't see super quick video. Isn't it do all this stuff? You can't see, i could be lying to you and just be over here, doing nothing.
Okay, so there's that and then the idea is spread this down, make her slippery, see. Let's see how she's slotted so we'll stick that on like so and then we'll be able to stick her up there boom. Just like that, oh let me do the other one. Real quick in case you didn't see it say it slotted hole on one side.

I'll show you this side just in case. You folks have trust issues with me. Get that right there, like so we'll take this one, get that one started, get the other one started on the other side, all right grab the old torque wrench here calibrate the number four half trigger perfect. Clearly i was joking.

I backed that off and torqued it to factory spec. Oh yeah, baby she's tight like a tiger now tiger toy, so that'll get rid of her clunking in the back. Let's go fix the clunking in the front, so i don't know if these sway bar links are oe, oem um, they might be if they are hallelujah, because not too often they have flats behind them that you can get a hold of this little guy. This one does on both sides.

They might be oem, it's got an r on it. It looks, looks fancy so we're gon na hold the stun on the back side, throw that piece of crap right in the garbage time to show you how the dog does it? Just dawned on me i'd like to show you how these were clunking hear that so the lower link, i think the upper link here was good, but the lower link is clunky. Listen so they get really noisy going over bumps i'll show you on the other side, if i'm doing both of them. Typically, i find to get to the bottom bolt it's kind of a pitcher sign hook, both the top ones.

Let me get some tools get back down in there doing the old classic reach around there on the impact didn't want to come hanging off and whale me. Damn. I forgot to show you this one is loose well you're, just gon na have to believe me all right. I know we got here.

They sound much worse than that in the car uh, but what we do is when we crack it loose. This allows us to get this up into a more optimal position, to try to get some tools in here because obviously they're pretty tight and we don't have a lot of room and we definitely don't want to use hand tools. That's we're not cavemen brand new and shiny. Look at that bling bling bling, bling bling! I just broke it first time i broke the uh head, oh she's long all right! I don't know how long it is, but it's pretty long, i'm a guy - and we have bad judgment of that already, but this thing's pretty pretty long.

I've had this thing for a lot of years and finally, uh finally broke it. Look at that that one wasn't even really that tight now that we got it cracked, loose um, so my mac man, nice guy, his name's, kyle and uh - i fixed this mom's car for him too. She was a nice lady, but i uh broke. You know just broke the gears in it, but he put a whole new head on it because he says i don't know what he said.
He said something gave me the whole head, so we're going in with your ir hammerhead see if i get it in here. I don't want to hand wrenches whatever we do come on baby forgot to give it a handy all the way to the end. Oh, come on. Let's see, i better get a swivel socket there.

You want to lose a tooth go around playing with some of these things. You'll lose a tooth i'll. Tell you what swivel sockets they don't play. They don't play.

Let's check out these badman pajamas uh ctr stabilizer link a global supplier for the oe. I've gone from napper made in the pr of korea. Let's see here, they've got flat spots on them too, which is awesome that makes going on a whole lot. Better, don't cut the boot with your knife when you're doing this.

There is a right in the left on this thing. This one is the 63 l, so i assume that l means left the other one same part number ends with an r ends with an r reminds me of my pirate joke. I think i've already told you guys, so we won't eat it. Let me go get the proper size sockets here, all right, i'll tell you, even though you guys have already heard it, i'm sure in case you haven't: what's the pirate's favorite letter i'll, give you a minute ah you'd.

Think it's the r but you'd be wrong because it'd be the c. That's right! Folks, i'll be here all day. So let's set our torque wrench to the forward direction and there it is we'll, come around down get down here on the flat and then we'll come back with our torque wrench in just a moment we'll back that back off, and then we will re-torque the factory Specs we're going to stick this right here. Oh you can't even see crap fix we'll stick this right here, so we don't lose it and then, when we get the other side done, then we'll come and put them back in hold that.

Okay, let me get this something: oh yeah, that's right, baby, wow, you're jerking my whole face. They must have used the same torque spec. I did it's more important. They don't fall off.

You know it wasn't. Gon na fall off come on very nice. Get that started straight: we don't want to strip it, especially on camera, and everybody knows your sins. There we go and then probably what we should do is go check.

The other side make sure it didn't fall on the wrong side, abs, wire or anything silly. At least, go get. The other side started this your freaking first day fella and i would say, if you're diying this, and you only got one side, your car jacked up. It's going to be a mother lover.

If this side's on the ground, you got to have both your wheels either on the ground or off, you don't want them uneven because you know one's going to be pulling on the sway bar you'll be swearing. You know mm-hmm the old ir hammerheads, you don't have a whole lot of snot big noise maker, so we do want to go through and actually make sure these are tight for realsies um, just to be on the safe side, double check the other side also - and I have my friends: is that sway bar links on the front of your knee sand, the bushings on the back, the bushings for the sway bar uh front sway bar bushings can go bad too. You see them. We see them a lot of chryslers and haunted minivans and honestly it'll sound like the freaking thing is falling apart.
It'll sound like somebody's right underneath your floorboard, bang, bang, bang, bang! You know with a hammer, so it's pretty amazing how much noise can come from one of these little links. Um and you know, when you're, underneath the car and you're moving them they're just barely clunking. It makes a lot of noise in the car. So if you need to prove it to yourself, just take them off and take it for a little shake.

I don't recommend doing that for liability reasons, but uh we're just replacing with new high quality ones from napa made by ctr. I think that's what i'm supposed to say, but i don't because they don't sponsor us, but i want you to bunch me down in that comment. Section questions the concerns, the instinct facebook. You guys know what to do.

Just remember yours. If i can do it, you can do it thanks for watching.

I have zero trust issues. Dealership wanted $2000, Eric O made it inspected for probably less than $2000

If I'm replacing the sway bar links, I will sometimes just break off the link from the joint and use a deep socket! But I also don't have that right angle impact, so I'm really just doing it wrong. Glad the lady is getting it cleaned up, it hopefully sells well. And thanks for the quality content!

Well, new rear sway bar bushings & front links but that Nissan could use a thorough car wash.

My wife's old Dodge Journey had bad front links. It sounded like someone was using a jackhammer under her car. Thankfully they were easy to replace. Unfortunately the rest of the suspension started following in the link's footsteps and it ended up being more of a hassle than it was worth so we just got her a new vehicle. Lol

Hi Eric, I've been doing an engine swap today and the same as you came across two 16mm bolts? That's when you remember no average spanner or socket set has a 16mm, I will have to see if there is an imperial equivalent. As for trust issues none with you 😁👍

The way cars are selling right now, she'll probably make a small mint off that beast. Thanks for the video as always, Eric! Always a good day with SMA!

Interesting that you describe the situation with the pads sitting
Just recently we had a vehicle in which had a shoe stuck to the drum something that I've never seen before although I knew it could happen
This seems rare here in the south but I am sure that it is common elsewhere
Thanks Eric for all your knowledge advice and help you are greatly appreciated

Yeah thanks for the late warning on those swivel sockets. I had one fly off and hit my nose and near my eye at work. Trying to take off a caliper bracket bolt. Hurt very bad of course.

Has anyone done the front sway bar bushings on these? Mine rattle like these but the service manual says you have to drop the sub frame and remove the steering rack to replace them? Wtf.
