In this video I bring you along as I have a go with some Honda CRV door latches. The reason we are replacing them is because they are really loud when they lock and unlock. However they still work. At any rate the customer wants new ones so here we go. -Enjoy!

Hey there, viewers welcome back to the south main auto channel working on the 2008 honda crv. It's got the big 24 in it uh. It doesn't matter in this video, because this one needs the door lock. Actuator, the ones in the back doors in this thing are making a tremendous amount of noise.

I'll show you i just put the one in on the left side. I want to bring you guys along and show you uh the process over here on the right side. In case you run across the same situation with your honda, so the door lock actuator on these is actually part of the latch. So pretty common on today's cars, i'm going to have sma's most eligible bachelor jason push the button.

First, we lock and unlock it. So that's what the little guy sounds like uh. However, though, let me show you something: the little guy still works makes a lot of noise still works. Oh that's good! Thank you! Uh.

The lady told me that it's actually been like this for three years still functions. She just got sick of hearing the noise and when both of them were bad, it was pretty obnoxious step. One get the only tool in the shop, but it's not a hammer, because all tools have a hammer side except screwdrivers. Those are all pry bars, so we're going to poke out the little plastic piece in here to expose the screws and we're going to get our weara 917 sph screwdriver we're gon na take these out now before you go bananas telling me that these are jis and Not phillips and all that hoopty at the end of the day, i don't care, phillips fits it and it takes them out and that's that so so we're all on the same page.

So we'll set those two screws aside now down here in the door pole where you can't see off camera, there's another screw, there's a screw down in the goo. That's a song! I made up every time i take out a door panel or a door pull, because these are usually nasty. I mean nasty, this one's not too bad. The one on the other side had a fingernail in it.

Not gon na lie a full finger. Now, if you don't believe me i'll, go over there and get it it's on the floor, i didn't pick it back up. I know you don't believe me, so i'm going to come, find it there's earplugs. I didn't touch those either.

Oh there, it is see it's a full fingernail gagging a little. It's a stick on one. Then we need to come here. There's a little flapper doodad here, open that baby up there's a screw way in the back 40.

come on baby. I think it was my first time there we go so these are long ones now that the length matters here uh in this situation, dusk, we want to make sure they go back where they belong. There's another one down here at the bottom of the pole, handle too, which is right, and you guys see it right down here, so we're gon na a little open up the little flapper right there and there's another screw right there. The general rule - honda doors - aren't too bad to get apart, so same screw goes in the top so set that to the side.

I think that does it for the screws. We just need the gank, but before you go yanking on it, where's the plastic, uh who's got the plastic trim tool. Anybody anybody gotti come out made over my toolbox. I like to lift these up just a little bit and then i'll get behind it.
Oh no! Bad, ah, the little plastic clip popped off. So there's one. I just slide them back upon. Look at the other one.

It fell on the ground perfectly intact and then that just slips just like so meow we will start down around the door. Can you guys see you can we're going to start cracking or loose? We will take oh short, black and curly and we'll take these bad boys out. Oh, we got what's this, we got in here, mm-hmm good work for that downtown, charlie brown and we'll set that to the side and then we'll go in here, we'll feel around come on baby get a couple of clips to the top come on baby. All right.

We got a different apparatus, we'll try something a little bit. Thicker usually get a couple of clips to pop you're in good shape. Get right next to him. Ah, come on wait, baby, a stubborn mother lover there, goodness there we're good push that little guy through.

Hopefully, you saw that and then uh bring it down flip it around i'll show you here in a minute a little bit of magic going on here. You just got ta disconnect the single electrical connector! That's back here! So it's this guy right here! It's got a little push, tab, you'll figure, it out, trust me and then on the back of the door. That's got some black mold or something going in here got a couple clips three we're missing one down there yeah. So we've got a couple clips.

We've got to pull off, set that down there for a second get your side, cutters, don't chop it off! Oh, did you hear that turbo another kid who can't afford to drive a 6-0? That's what that sounds. Like folks, hey! I got this diesel on craigslist, but it's super cheap. They bullet proofed, it that's what they all say kid, that's what they all say. It's always the same story, ain't it jay all right.

If some 18 year old kid comes in here and he always just bought. I bought this f-250. It's got the 6-0, my buddy bulletproofed it yeah. It's got a bad sensor.

He's got 87 000 into it, sold it to me for 2500 bucks. What do you think is a good deal. A week later same kid comes by hitchhiking a week. Later i've seen it a hundred times, you know, there's money missing off the dressers and your daughter's knocked up.

Oh, let's see, can you guys see up here? I'm up here in the upper right hand corner we got to get the little black plug off. That holds the dust film or whatever you want to call it make up your own words as we go and we all vary ginger. This is not like the butyl rubber that they use on domestics, where it's the equivalent of anti-seize, where you touch it next thing. You know it's in your elbows and your armpits so we'll slip that through and you don't need to take this off all the way.
Just out of the way kind of rhymed and then pop the little wiring harness out of the way and then we'll right here get your top tool number three screw upper. True opera! That's my son he's gone when he was throwing that shrew hopper papa that a shoe hopper. I don't like that. Shrew hopper, but that's what he calls screwdrivers uh, take that screw out pull this little rubber child lock, donger thing off here, make sure you know which way it goes so screwing a rubber dollar and then bring it around.

We got to get these mother lovers off. These things are usually tighter than a man. You know how tight banshees can get mother lover impact drivers work well on these, but make darn tootin. You have a good fit and screwdriver and make a little noise when it happens too.

So push push. Push push then turn tight yeah, something like that. Now work. Every time you don't grunt, you ain't gon na get it or, if you think, oh, i won't have to grunt boom you're gon na strip it out.

That's what you get for being cocky and not grunting. Take them out, set them to the side. There's a bolt right here of the 10 millimeter variety we're going to take that out too. That holds the lower window track in.

Yes, trust me on this one peel, this sticker off right here, use your knife, see if we can't underneath that little guy there she is save that you're going to need that trust me in this last words, uh the reason. The reason we want to take that off is just so we can see more particularly me, not you. I do care if you can see, but so up up in here, i'm gon na try to get the camera in there. I can see it through the little hole i'll see if you can see it through the little hole go up inside the hole.

Now. Let me see i got to find it get my finger in here, so you see that little blue thing. That's your retainer! For this rod, so you flick that come on baby. I don't know if i can give it the old one finger nope i have such down, but oh no, never mind there.

We go see, you get all excited flick that up off the rod all right. So the blue thing is flicked off the rod. Then we've got to reach in here with a pick and we got to get on that rod and we got to flick it out of the door handle. Now it's got a little bit of a well.

Let's see it up in here hold on folks hold on there. We are so we just took the blue plastic cover off. Now we've got to get that rod. Uh.

Let's see here, stick my finger in there. Let me get, let me get a peck and just show you, let's see so, i'm gon na come up in here with a pick. This thing has a bit of a nipple on the end of that shaft there she goes baby and you got ta pop it out uh. It's not your standard straight shaft, blue plastic, clip ordeal that you might be used to.

You've got to use a little force and it'll pop right out now. The next step is the hardest step to show not to do, but to show so we've got to get this lock out of here when you're in here you're gon na notice that the window track is in the way. Now, if you check service data, it tells you to just take the bolt off tweak it to the side. That's what you do so don't be afraid, but don't don't be stupid either when you get a hold of it, don't you know just bend it right out of the way in order.
If you want to take that out and you're super anal about it, you got to pull the door glass. Take the bolt out the top pull that track. You know you can do that way. It just adds time, but we're going to take and break this loose because she's kind of stuck in there.

So now it's all loose and wiggly and your latch and everything's still on you need to bring it down in a sweeping motion down this way and underneath that track while pulling that track out. If that makes sense to you, i can't really show you deep inside, but you'll see. I just tweak it out a little bit tweak the track out a little, and then you just you work you're like work, it girl and you bring it down boom. Robert's your mother's brother, and i would out it comes so now we need to go swap some of the cables and crap over to the new one.

I'll show you how to do that. What's up miss, though, what's up oh just out here, finding some weed some downtown charlie brown, nickel bag? I figure it probably is. Do you feel like that meat yeah? I smoked a little too yeah, i'm all giggly man, i'm just kidding anyways. I don't really have any other reason to be in here: there's abby walking by so what's up all right, we're making it weird.

I got ta. This is a rarely seen item folks, uh back in the high school uh, when i was in trade school for building trades. This is my this is the og erico tool box. So i made this little guy when i was in school, and this is back you can see by the stickers.

I was probably the only kid in the building trades class. I had car stickers and i was back before my love. Affair ended with the automobiles ruined by the general public and back when i was a car guy back when you guys would have really liked to hang out with me back when i got arrested almost every weekend but yeah, it's the og man. This is it.

This is erico's original toolbox from the school still works, still have it still use it every day, not every day, but all right, i heard they ever use this yeah yeah. Well, we got started been at hey this baby off all right. Let's get serious here folks! So this is for the right side. Let me give you the part numbers.

This is your classic. 72 610 sierra whiskey alpha alpha zero, one, that's for the right side and then that's the one. I've already changed here on the left side. Uh part number 72650: sierra whiskey alpha alpha zero one.

Is that the same that can't be the same number. 72. 610. 72.

650. So anyways there you go so you got that uh. We need to line these babies up so they look the same. They do look! The same there's a couple screws in it take that one off: stick it in your lips! Take that one off! Stick that one in your lips, very gingerly, uh, hmm set them down for a second the foam.
If you're a real foam, weeny you're going to want to buy your own because they don't make it anymore, i don't know how necessary it is we're gon na pop, the cable out. Okay, it's got a donger that holds it over here, flick it to the side. Wiggle wiggle wiggle there we go another one right here up and out: yep set that to the side, push it in tweak it around spin it around. Do the moonwalk click it in same thing.

Here push it in latch, it click it stick it pop it and then we stick this baby back on it does. If you got the foam, so it has some little lips that it goes under not like not those kind of lips, not kissy lips. Um you'll see you'll understand once you start doing it, you'll be like. Oh, i understand.

All i had to do was do it there. She is baby once that's all on there. You get your two little screws right here. Stick that one back in your mouth, uh uh, we'll put it right here: okay, oh it's! Oddly satisfying! Isn't it if i could do an asmr video of just removing this, except it's not really making any noise.

It's super delicate! Like a lady boom there. It is a little buggy got him. It should have enough sticky goo that you just push it back down and then we can try. Try, try to understand i'm not a magic man.

Who's that he's a man is that that heart or pat benatar, i always get confused magic man. I know about classic rocks, that's both classic and it rocks this thing happening down here. Folks i'll tell you that right now, the only reason i'm doing this part of it is to satisfy you, oh not to do. Let's uh stick her back in baby.

I think we're all set. You can't buy that foam and stuff from honda. So, like i say, if you're all upset about it, do something playing on something i wouldn't get too excited. It is heart who sings magic man.

I was right. I knew it was harder. Pat benatar told you uh, so this is going to go back in it already had now see that's the little nipple. That was on the end of that that we had to pop out a little mushroom head um.

So we'll stick the rod towards the inside. Of that window, rail, okay and then it's kind of hard to show this, but i'm going to reach in i'm going to tweak the rail out. I got a hold of it, see if i can do it like this, to show you better to better serve you and then we're gon na we're gon na wiggle. Don't let things awesome, don't let things get all snagged up.

You probably should have should have done it by hand it's easier than trying to do with a pick, but you see and then you slip it around, then that's it you're in you're, good you're done now. It's just a matter of reversing steps, one through seventeen. So we'll stick that up here and temporarily install that temporarily permanently. Don't tighten it up.
I guess is what i'm getting at and then make sure your rod. That's up in here that one we looked at it's on the right side of the window track and then all you have to do is stick it back in the blue hole and that's it once you put it in then you flip the little clip flip. The clip down and around the clip that we took off, i don't feel that i have to show you, because you guys are a bunch of pretty sharp, dudes and you'll know what i'm talking about. I'm gon na reach right through this hole boom reach right through this hole boom just like that and that's it, and that should be good.

Look up in there with your face looks good. I mean real good and take your three phillips or jis. Japanese industrial standard screws - i think that's what they're calling we're gon na stick them back here in the end of the door, we're going to call them filter just because it pisses people off that's the kind of guy and then we're going to stick this little guy Back in, like so, and then we're going to get our bolt of the 10 millimeter headed variety, six millimeter, 1.0 threads. It looks like we'll.

Stick that back that way down here in the bottom down here right, where you can't see. That's where you want to put that one hold that window track back in it's a long, winded sucker. I don't know why, like that, take our light back out. We clipped that right there, you take your wiring harness you clip that back in there don't plug it.

In yet get the screwdriver come to the side. Now, with these little guys, you will want to snug them up a little then you're, gon na pause, the camera and then go get the torque specs and a torque wrench and finish torquing them to factory specs. Of course, which we always do come back and do that right off camera real quick here in a minute same thing with this one get your torque spec factory, spec, always see if this little guy still has any sticky goo left on it, give her the run Around why you wan na give me the who sings that run around is that blues travelers give me the runs. I don't know why you want to give me the runs around.

I remember. I think it probably sounds like a blues trailer. So all right, i made my day that guy's, like 85 years old, i got one of my one of my locals. One of my local people just came in, he just laughed.

He said he just loves loves, he loves the youtube channel. He says he says: you're, pretty cool man. I love that guy there you go we're gon na bring that down. Stick it around.

We want to get the black dogger in there. First, oh there's that you see the telltale marks on the foam here boom. She went like that, not that it probably matters, but it matters to me, then that's too big fella. I had a nickel for every time.

I didn't hear that, let's see, there's that now that baby, you kind of want to line up a little bit of play. Kind of hold her in the middle boom there nobody's even gon na know. We were in here line up all your screw holes, otherwise somebody will know it's very important when you're done with something nobody knows except for the foam. That's it baby.
I guess we'll throw the panel on and that's it so the uh door handle you got three dongers in here. Three male diners, three females. You probably could figure out the rest of them they're over. There line her up click it in, but before you do that plug it in i'll, tell you right now boom and then it has a little hooky doodad up on the top hook.

It feel around every one of those hey. So so that's amazing, most eligible badgers. Coming back over to see, we probably should have confirmed this before we put this together and see if she works jay yep much quieter, baby much quieter boom. We did it.

We win we're good. We've got a crystal in here, we'll crystallize the door. Oh we're done there, you have it folks uh putting the door lock, actuator or the actual door latch in the back of your third gen, as you guys like to call them gen threes. I don't know if you have a sign to use for your 2008 honda crv uh, not a bad job.

I think honda did a nice job. Designing the door door panel comes apart. Great uh. The actual latch assembly is not difficult to remove and they're, not horribly expensive, to stick with the oem.

So, and that would be my suggestion. I wouldn't buy any aftermarket crap. The oes, you know, seem to work and function well until they don't and despite making a bunch of noise that still worked, but with both of them being bad, it was every time you're in and out of park. You know this thing is just squawking away back.

There uh, but that's it: why don't you squawk on down in that comment, section the instinct, the facebook, the comments, the questions, anything you got put it down there and just remember viewers. If i can do it, you can do it thanks for watching.

You can't beat experience with fiddly jobs like this. Is it me or is Eric getting funnier ? Always a bonus when Mrs O appears no matter how briefly.

Remember when they use to spray Russi Jones in there. Stick your arm in there and come out with a bunch of Russi Jones slime all over your arm.Good times.

I would suggest connecting the latch connector to the door switch BEFORE reassembling the whole thing. That way, you can avoid doing everything twice if you got a bad part.

Funny. Most YouTubers would of taken advantage of finding the "good" stuff as a means to create a clickbait title. I can see it now, "You won't BELIEVE what I just found in this HONDA CRV!!!!", but no, you're definitely much more respectable.

Thank you for the video. My 2008 Crv has 219,000 miles and I have to replace the rear door lock. The last set has lasted since I bought it with 96,000 miles, 9 years ago (Dealer replaced for free).

If you put a little locktight on those countersunk screws that hold the latch in, you don't have to tighten them such that the next poor bastard (usually yourself) that has to come along to undo them won't have to be concerned about stripping them out

Nicely done Eric. I needed to wach since I still have a draw on my '07 Galant & found the rear driver door inside panelnwasn't put back as it should. I went through the whole shebng of letting everything rest & fund a draw on the door lock fuse which seemed to reset by activating the locks 2 times & no more draw on the fuse. I need to do it again only having the amp draw monitored over the negative terminal.. Such is ife. Thanks & wishing you guya bit of a better day.

Hi Eric, I'm a subscriber and enjoy your channel very much. I'm often lost/confused about some of the electrical diagnostic tests you do but I'm learning. What Eric didn't tell you the reason the door locks were making that noise. He had already taken the door panels off before the video shoot. He took out several bricks of cash and drugs and left only the baggie and the crystal behind.
