In a previous video https://youtu.be/4hRPUFr380s I had a look at a 2014 GMC that the battery would go dead overnight. I made the call on a faulty Transfer Case Motor. Let's swap it out and verify the repair. -Enjoy!

Oh, we meet again chevrolet part, two follow-up, folks, the i think it was a 2015 that we were working on the gmc. The last video you just watched. Why is that thunder? Is that come on plug so hard? I remember we had this transfer case shift motor that we determined by we mean i determined that the lock portion of it was shorted internally. So all the way from the pr of k, so the people's republic of korea, we got a genuine chevrolet apple pie, baseball america.

Part right here, part number, eight, four, one: zero niner, two one: two, i'm gon na open that up. They had one right in stock of my local dealer, we're going to take it out before we take this one off, because we want to make sure that it's correct there. She is, let's get this down where we can all see and enjoy the unboxing. Some people say: well, the lighting is kind of weird, but there you go open her up pretty anti-climactic, but there she is.

This is an s t motif and that's the destiny t de woo, so whatever that means um numbers are a little different. However, it looks the same so, let's get at it, you will get what appears to be a torx bit looks like there's, four of them, we'll put it on, and i believe you have to go through a relearn procedure. We can always check with the service data on that oops, not that size fella. What do we got here? This is a t40, oh yeah.

What the heck! I thought that feels a little loose but uh, it's not a t45. Are those torques plus, perhaps either way t40 seems to do the job that we're going to need to do shouldn't? Be that tight? I don't imagine famous last words i know seized up there, nope, not bad at all, all right whoa, she pee peed, a little honest. So she's a gear to gear mechanism there, and i believe this is why we have to relearn the position. This is a rotational center here they work kind of funky uh.

You ever get a chance. You think you're gon na have to diagnose one of these transfer cases. At some point, i would highly recommend getting data from this sensor and jotting it down. That's the most useful way to learn stuff how it works.

These are pretty popular transfer case and gms. You can always get the theory and operation, but sometimes useful practical information. It's hard to hard to find it'd be really nice. If some engineer would keep that in consideration when he's writing the papers, but if you can't have everything there, we go.

Let's uh get a scan tool before we do that, though, which could also be wrong by we. I mean us, let's see, listen, all right, no more clicking, so that's good means uh. We got it right. We should really look at service tab.

I'm pretty sure. Let's see, i want a pqrs transfer case control module so we'll go in there and i believe it's a rehoming procedure range actuator, learn there we go keys on it's in neutral right now, okay, i thought i had to leave it neutral, so it's in neutral. I think we'll hear it humming and buzzing and carrying on we may have to uh step our foot on the brake, though sometimes, if you don't follow the rules on the special functions that might get stuck in an endless loop here. But and we passed a good to go - and i know a host of you folks, just typed in the comment section you want to see this thing tore apart.
However, there's a core charge on this oddly enough uh, it was brand new, but must be. Gm is selling these course rebuilders. So i don't want to lose my core on it. So we're not going to tear it apart, but we can only guess you know where it is shorted.

I'm assuming you know, perhaps in this area here somewheres, where the two metals collide uh. I can only envision that the lock pin itself is shorted. You know to the case ground an ohmmeter check. I guess could tell us that you know we could go for.

I think the second one in was the power supply, and then i think the third one was a lot ground and it's you know likely shorted to the case but uh if it's not either way it's shorted somehow to ground. You know that was causing our problem. That we had so that's that, let's make sure the four wheel drive works, front axle, disengaged she's in we're in perfect la da bing. Everything turned back.

Oh, you missed it all when you're in four low, it shuts traction, control and stuff off, but uh everything's good to go again fancy well there you have it folks, uh fixing the battery draw and your chevrolet uh. First time i ran across that one before maybe it's a common problem. Maybe we'll see it again, but it is something we will take. Stick it in our pocket and keep it in our memory.

Banks and say hey, you know, maybe when you hook your you know, big clue would be, is battery's dead. You throw the jumper on all of a sudden clank. You know you hear that noise underneath your chevy and you know maybe have your wife crawl under there and you hook up the jumper cables and say hey. Do you hear that thing clanking? I don't know, maybe it's common, maybe it's rare, maybe we'll never see it again, but one thing i don't want to see again.

Is you not going in that comment section and leaving your comments? Even if you think i need to shut up and just get to the point put that in the comments section while you're down there questions comments, concerns subscribe, the bell ringing, the facebook, the insty just from our viewers. If i could do it, you can do it. Thanks for watching.

My wife asked if you really said for her to crawl under the truck. I told her for sure. Of course, we don't own a 'chevy.

Interesting that the customer had no drivability complaint with the 4wd other than the B+ dying…I've done a couple of those ( similar) on Dodges, and they act all kinds of stupid, sometimes even locking in 4WL. Good straightforward diag! Thx!

Thanks for your step by step procedure for parasite drains; I have a 2011 Ram with one. I've tried a few times to find it, I sent it to my mechanic & he couldn't find it. I have a few days off this week and plan to take your approach and finally fix this issue!
Wish you were in my area; I'd bring it to you and enjoy watching you fix it on YouTube. I like your statement "If I can do it, so can you"…… I guess we'll see!!! LOL

Um, the “ Democratic Peoples Republic Of Korea” are the folks in the North.
I believe you mean the “Republic Of Korea” a.k.a.
The (KIA/Hyundai manufacturer) type folks in the South as the actual transfer case’ motor’s manufacturer. (Details).

Great video as always. We all learn something and like you said "put it in our back pocket for later!" As for you shutting your trap, don't you dare! You have the gift of gab, and these videos would be just another boring video with out your commentary! Thanks again Mr. O.

Good fix Eric, the only issue would be that you need a scan tool to go through the "re-learning" test, to finalize the fix. But if the owner does all the hard work first, getting a mechanic to "reset" it, would be cheap.

Similar thing with my 2003 F 150 4wd. The 4wd servo motor stuck in the "on" position. Key off still drained my battery. Replaced motor to fix.

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike Exelby says:

Did you attempt to actuate the 4 wheel drive to see if it was throwing a fault before replacing? I guess that could be another way to find out if she is cooked.

Ok I'm going out on a limb here. I live in Ohio so our winters aren't as bad as youse guys but hasn't anyone heard of a car wash? I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 4WD and it is a rust bucket (like that when I bought it 6 years ago) but even I take it through a good car wash once a month. Seems no one cares about keeping their vehiculars clean anymore. Good to see two of my favorites on here. Wes and Vehcor. Love all their videos. Wish I could meet all of you one day.

Eric this is the reason you are truly the electrical guy that I Rely Upon whenever I watch your videos or anybody else's who else would go through the diagnosis that you've gone through to find a battery that's being drawn down and who would ever think it's because of a transfer case solenoid that would draw down that and kill the battery thank you sir .

No more SMA T-shirts in the swag store? That’s a huge bummer. Anyway, thanks for a great vid Eric, hope you have a great day and enjoy your weekend.

Love to hear Mrs. O talk in your videos. Especially the one where you threw the nut from the brake light switch from the Kia Sonata at the trash can and she jumped back. Classic

I need to go back and find the jeep Liberty ignition Switch work that you did. I figured out how to start the Jeep when jumping the Relay connector.
I'll leave a comment there. If you have not figured how to do it.
