Hey there, viewers welcome back to the south, spain, auto 2, we're back on the nissan maxima. I forgot my hat. Let's just get that out in the open, it needs the front brakes, and this is the side that i said had the loose wheel bearing on it or you know, slightly loose, not real bad, just a little bit of plate. But i look here and that wheel bearing looks pretty bright and shiny like it's brand new um, i think perhaps when they were guessing and throwing all the parts at it to fix the ultimate with a bad alternator.

They probably got a new wheel. Bearing i see the grease looks pretty fresh on it. That being said, i think what we're going to do is make sure that they torque it properly, because if it's not it'll have you know a little bit of slop in it if they didn't give it enough. Ugga dougas to keep it together, so we're going to feel the brakes off it we're going to whack down the axle nut and then re-torque it to make sure that's all good double check it for play and then kind of move on with our day.

How does a guy walk out and forget his hat? Have no idea, but i did it. I think it's because it was raining and when i went out to start my jeep this morning i had my hood up got my hoodie and i don't think i took the hood down. Therefore, i think in my subconscious i felt something on my head there for three quarters of the way to work when my jeep warmed up, and i took my hood off, i'm like son of a oh ha, my head's cold, because you forgot your hat. Oh wow, things happen.

Oh i'm a little tired this morning too, so peel the caliper off. I do want to check. Look like a bunny rabbit here. I just want to make sure that the caliper is going to press in for us before we get too far.

Nothing like getting your bracket all cleaned up only to find out your calipers chuck. Okay, so it presses in fancy like whoa hanging by the hose. Don't look close your eyes! Nobody saw that. Let's try this again if i should go, get a little hooker over here.

Come here baby we got one we'll hang her up on the hook. There you go. We got something back here. We got an ugga dugga gun right here with a swivel guaranteed to hurt you 22 mm, the nozzle guys beds are not a hundred percent wasted.

Yet getting close we're changing these because the rotors are so something something that's brand with a new bearing there son all right. Let's see how tight that little guy is it's hard to tell using yuga duggar it comes loose super easy! Then we know we'll go with gentle on it yeah i see everything's barely tight, i'm just i'm going like this and taking it off. It is thor, though uh, let's clean, all the shmoo off it, we'll lock, todd it and then we'll torque it because uh i've worked with some fellas, particularly some old fellas, we'll call them old, guys, old, fuddy, duddies and for some reason, they're still on the assumption That these things just go down finger tight, like like bearings, did back when they were kids and more often than not. You'll you'll see that it sounds silly um, because a lot of these are torqued at you know, anywhere from 110 foot pounds to 260 foot-pounds.
Unless it's a volkswagen and those are torqued at 9 million plus 70 degrees, so we're going to clean that off get out the good stuff here it it baby. I won't let you down, folks these don't use a castle nut or anything. Just a plain old, plain old nut, i'm sure if you read service day that tells you to change it every time you look at it proper. I don't know it's not even a lock nut, so they probably don't even say that shine it up.

Don't think it's a lock nut, don't see any deformations on it. That's a word: if it's not, it should be there. She is baby. Let's go get some loctite.

What i wanted to do there was to make sure that the hub was pushed together all the way that makes sense to because we knew it was just a teeny tiny bit loose before we put loctot on it. Oh you're hired. We wanted to make sure that it was uh. You know smooshed together.

That makes sense. Hopefully it does we're gon na put some of this on there. Oops can't get the lid, and maybe it is some kind of lock nut. It does get a little hard here on the outside, not too hard, though.

Let's see so, we've got the old turkey out here. She has 130 ftlbs's there we go see. If we can do this there, we go so not crazy, tight. While we are standing here with a can of the good stuff we're gon na take and get some of this old muscle grease off there - i didn't know there was a castle guy still around.

Apparently he is, but he doesn't stop here anymore. That's what this red stuff says, the castle muscle grease must be a local, i guess there's probably castle dealers all over good stuff did like it. The castle guy did not like me, though. What kind of bearing is that you want me to tell you why i'll tell you why, now that you asked, because i didn't buy stuff off them every week they stopped in once a week, i'm a small shop folks, believe it or not in a small town And believe it or not, i didn't need cases and cases of spray goods every single week couldn't wrap his head around it and when i did need stuff most shops he sold to bought it by the can i'd buy it by the case.

He'd have something on sale product. I liked whether shop saw muscle grease endura thrust whatever i would buy one or two cases. Therefore, i don't need any probably for the next six months, and you just thought it was ridiculous. Anyhow, i tried to explain to them how it's more economical to do that, but whatever dude so let's go get this stuff sounds like sheep.

It smells like sheep flannel and base we'll spritz that on there we'll get the rotor. You guys know where it's from well. Let me show you something: i bet you dollars and donuts. You can see this baby's been unopened.

We got fresh tape on it. Let's see if this one has rust on i've been having some issues from these rotors that the 2019 vintage that's what this one is. I'm thinking this one's going to ask ruster, despite all their efforts to bag them tag them wrap them, do everything they can. That could be wrong.
It looks like a ding-dong but species wrapped in a package starting to see a trend here folks and they put the anti-corrosive paper on them. You know which rotors didn't rust, the ones they put in the bag that they sprayed with oil. Anything oh yeah see that yeah you get the little rust spots on it, they're superficial, but it's kind of annoying. This is kind of minor compared to some i've.

I've opened some legit folks. You see rust, rust, rust. I've opened some that i've had to send back. They were so bad, then i called the napa brake people and i tell them hey you, don't sponsor us, but here's the problem, i'm seeing and they tell me it's a warrant off case.

I'm the only one. You know the same stuff. They always tell everybody. It is kind of superficial rust it is on the outside, but, like i said, i've opened some that are super duper bad.

That's a frustrating part about some of these big corporations. They don't really care about you. In the end. You know i've called some of their tech supports to the point i just quit doing it anymore, not really their tech support, but like their customer service or whatever you want to call it to.

Let them know about some of their product and how it's broken and how they can fix it to make it better. They just hire a guy who blows smoke up your hiding to answer the phone and make you feel good. So i just quit calling these places sad, really. I guess that is the giant soulless entity known as corporate america right so we're going to take.

Somebody took the rubber off this pin, not this guy. Somebody else did pretty common occurrence. They usually swell up. Somebody uses the wrong grease and then the pin seizes - and it's not too big a deal so we're going to put a little silicone grease on these.

Just pull them out just kind of look at them. Both of them move pretty easy wipe off some of the old schmoo put on the new. I already sand blasted the bracket to clean that little guy up we're using some super lube with sin: colon aka pte it's food grade, so that's good, so we'll smear that around slippery. So that's good! We're done with that and then we'll use our crc siloramic ceramic fortified, brake system grease and it's extreme up to 3000 degrees after that you're in trouble.

So we're gon na put that behind our abutment clips, where we sandblasted it to keep it from getting so rusty. Stuff's pretty sticky, that seems good. We do get the coated hardware, which is nice, it's pretty slick itself, and then we've got our anti-drag clips and our brake squealer. So let's go uh, put the lid on this and then we'll go.

Stick the bracket on we'll need a little loctite trying to milk this job. As long as i can, my next job is not a fun job, but even if i milked this, i still got to do that job and later in the day, it's a toyota. It's the sienna, i think that's what they call it: their minivan toyota minivan a newer one, 14 or 15, or so i got to do a door cables in the sliding door. Awesome super excited about that.
We will get torque wrench, clickety click see it's all torqued down we're going to put uh a squealer on her pad push that one on the inside. Stick this one on the outside with no squeals. They should fit very loosely okay, she's, pretty clean. Let's go get some silly ramek, some jobs we dread.

I should just turn it down. You know, i'm the boss turned down a job yesterday, had a 19 or 20 durango come in leaking coolant and it was pissing above the transmission and the under body lines. Uh. One of them had a hole rub through it right from the factory uh when they put the two clamps on the two hose clamps on it.

The one hose clamp was touching the aluminum pipe and it rubbed the hole through it, and this thing didn't even have 40 000 miles on it and uh it's a monster of a job to do uh. I told the guy to take it back to chrysler. I mean it's an obvious factory defect, but he said he did stop at chrysler because he thought it would be covered under warranty and in a nice way they told him to go pound sand that they're not gon na fix it it's his problem, so i advise Them to call the corporate, which we all know, that's nothing, but a smoking mirror shows we've already talked about, but hopefully he gets somewheres with it. It's kind of sad that they won't cover it.

For him i mean it's a clear and obvious defect right from the right from the get-go. You know, but we'll see that job i wanted to deny, because it looks like a monster to do we're. Gon na put that top pin in and then we got ta put these on, but we got ta give them this big squeak. These things are painting the hoop, so we're gon na put our bottom one on first.

This will flick the pads on the floor several times before you get them in then we're gon na put this one in. You got a lot of tension. Put that one in when you squeeze them, and then you roll it around town that keeps you from dropping on the floor. Trial and error.

Teaches you that process folks oops, it doesn't teach you how to put a bolt in, though there's that wrench. These are my dad's wrenches one set of them and that's his torque wrench too took some things out of his toolbox. So we're going to take him snug these up and then, of course, we will come back and torque it all the factory specs. You know me fancy make sure you check the brake fluid and then pump your pedal a couple times, we'll double check it all when we get back from our test drive here got ta feel bad for this lady because she already bought a new car, but i Feel happy for her granddaughter because i think that's who she's giving this car to so there you have it folks, just like that.
I just got to bring it in. I want to put it back on the lift, i'm going to double check that wheel. Bearing make sure that's cool if it's not then proceed with our original plan, replace the bearing uh, but i'm sure it's probably good uh double check the wheel, torque and that's it uh. What i want you to do is send me good vibes, so i can bring in that toyota van and do the door.

Why did i say yes, they're a pain in the butt to do uh and to answer your question? No, i am not going to make a video on it because there's way too much swearing involved, uh anyhow comment section: you guys know what to do. Go down. There don't swear while you're down there just swear to me. You're gon na make a good comment.

A question or a good criticism and uh the instinct facebook, you guys know i don't need to tell you just remember beards. If i could do it, you can do it thanks for watching.

😂 learn something new every time from Eric I work at Nissan and have always hated those drag springs I’ve actually cracked a few pads when they go flying to the floor. Fyi our oem pad kits don’t come with new drag clips for some strange reason kinda sad when the vehicle already is missing the clips.

Been watching your channel for some time now and have to say I’m really impressed that you seem to be a great mechanic and…a reasonable guy! You express life’s annoyances with humor and levity, without political comment! What a breath of fresh air! Please keep up the good work!

Steel melts at 2800°F so the grease which melts at 3000°F should do he job. Entire caliper and rotor melts; grease is still good. Yea!

@South Main Auto Repair LLC If it was just about anyone else I might be sick of brake jobs by now but I like hearing your stories, memaw's tips, and other sage advise. 🙂

Eric you remind me of the first time I rebuilt an engine. This was in high school. First we tightened the head bolts, then we torqued them to some absurd high spec, then the teacher told us to take a giant bar to the socket and do another 70 degrees. I was sure those bolts were going to break with a loud bang. This was a 450 cu in Rocket Engine Oldsmobile V8, long before ECMs and pollution control. We set the timing with a strobe light plugged into #1, by turning the distributor body. I'll bet half the people reading this have no idea what that means. I am definitely and old fuddy duddy. But that teacher was vicious about torque spec. We had to write down our final torque reading for every bolt next to the spec. He graded us on how close our report was to what he measured himself after we finished. I still ALWAYS tighten to spec.

The Matt's Off Road Recovery channel just rebuilt their towing-jeep from the ground up. Totally stripped it to the bare body, and rebuilt it. On the ninth towing job the front steering tie rod fell off. They had forgotten to put the cotter pins through the castle nuts. Torque specs are NOT options, just as cotter pins are NOT optional. Wheels will come off, steering linkages will come loose, and break calipers will drop off. People will die.

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars homie789 says:

Why use lock tite when it has a castle cover and a cotter pin? Kind of a waste as the cotter pin does a better job of holding than liquid goo

I know hunters who are the same way, they buy a box of ammo or two at a time and then complain when they run out or price goes up. I buy cases at a time when I see sales, or at the end of year, etc. I'm doing well now when I last bought them at $89.99/99.99 a case and now they are $199 for the same stuff.

Hey Eric, we all watch because you're a very likeable guy with a good sense of humor. We don't all watch because we need to see a brake job, or an alternator replacement, but we watch because it's like dropping in to see a friend, and to see how he's doing.
You looked tired and disillusioned today. Never mind all the b.s. that people try to pile you under every day, and think about your beautiful family and what life's really about for you.
We love you,( in a manly kinda way ;O) ). Take care and have a great day sir.

I'll never get bored watching brake job videos 😀 Soon I'm going to have to change winter tyres to summer tyres, and while at it, check the brakes how they are, with educated eyes from these videos 😀

How many people wonder if he was mad and swore because he couldnt clip his garage door opener to his cap.. Eric, have a spare sma merch hat at the office. And did that loose axle nut fix work or did the dealer bungle up the bearing repair as well

A few years ago saw a jeep gushing oil from lines and plug hole destroyed. We declined and never saw again. Man that car was messed. I don't know how or why!
