Today's 60 second tool tip is on these little guys right here now. This is not just a double headed, roach clip. This is a wire holder for when you're soldering or a helping hand, they call them that one there is manufactured, it's one i purchased now. This is uh one uh fella made me here.

Maybe a couple of these piece of solid wire, maybe like some uh 12 or 14 gauge house wiring solid core, so it's rigid and just a couple of alligator clips from the amazon. The one here that's manufactured is magnetic so these kind of just pop together, you can put them in any angle. Uh fits in your pocket for the on to go lifestyle. This one i heavily modded.

I put some windshield washer tubing on it, because i've noticed when you're set up and you heat it up. Sometimes, if you're dilly dallying, it heats up into the wire too much and then your gator clips pitch through the insulation simply adding some windshield washer tubing fixes the problem just like that. You're done folks handy bit of kit make some yourself.

My deluxe model uses an old magnet, out of a speaker, to hold the wire /alligators. (if your not close to your vice)

I have one of these in my electrical box. Made it years ago and forgot where I got the idea from. Used clips and 8 gauge solid copper wire, even put heat shrink on the clips so it doesn't bite into the wire. This video reminded me I've been watching you a long time! Keep up the great work Eric.

Windshield washer tubing. I've had the same problem with the insulation getting soft and the alligator clips poking through the insulation. Thanks for the tip.

While doing some wiring repair I noticed the clip teeth making it through, used the heat shrink tube that I was gonna use to cover the connection to help prevent damage.

I made some of those back in the '70s in high school. My after-school job was working on televisions before my mechanic years.

you need some of those wire solder connectors with the built in flux and low temp melt solder, just hit with heat gun and you have a sealed connectoin!

Eric I will now be making these things in my garage… well trying to make these things but will no doubt be looking onto โ€˜Uncle Jeffโ€™sโ€™ website(not a sponsor) to purchase something similar

I have the 'manufactured model' myself. Worth every penny. I ended up putting some heat shrink on the jaws, I doubled it up of course, can never be to safe.

I do gotta say, that was some fine soldering technique you had there at the end. ๐Ÿ˜‰

You have no idea how much I appreciate the attention to detail, problem solving, and "thinking-it-through" in this video. (I am impressed by things like the washer tubing on the clips.)

If you read your comments I have a 1995 gmc sierra with a ls swap 5.3 out of a 2003 chevy silverado. I have a p1637 and p1638 code. Any help would be appreciated. The alternator is changing but when I hook up my scanner it's not showing anything for the generator L duty cycle… it's getting 10v to the feed wire to the alternator both pcm wires are good and not shorted. I've looked online for a wiring diagram but nothing unless I pay for it..
